Advice
for a Happy Home Life
A home is
the result of the combined effort of a woman and
a man. Through the love and good conduct of the
wife and her husband, countless tasks flourish.
Due to the strong character of both, the walls
of the home remain strong. If either of the two
stops playing their role, that building can even
collapse, and the entire environment can become
unstable. Therefore, it is necessary that both
are aware of their respective duties and
responsibilities and are sensitive towards each
other. Below, based on my experiences, I will
share some such priceless points, acting upon
which a wife and husband can build a successful
home and keep their children and family
prosperous:
1.
Tolerance and Forbearance are necessary: After
marriage, the first thing one encounters are
these two words. Be it a man or a woman, both
have to face all such matters that are contrary
to their temperament. Therefore, one should
cultivate the quality of forbearance and
tolerance within oneself. The more you express
anger over matters against each other's
temperament, the more complicated the issues
will become. Keep this in mind: if the home is
to be saved, act upon the above point sincerely,
and the other person will also be impressed by
you. This applies to every member of the
household, and thus circumstances will improve,
Insha'Allah.
2.
Persuade with Love and Affection: Some men and
some women have this habit of considering it
their right to issue commands in every task. But
remember, if this habit persists, believe that
you will have to suffer its losses sooner or
later, and escaping from it will become very
difficult. This is my advice to you: avoid the
habit of issuing commands. In normal
circumstances, the language of love is
exceedingly effective. This is my own personal
experience. We, husband and wife, both lived a
very honourable life by following this
principle. Now, he has departed, but as long as
it is Allah Sain's will, I have to live in this
world. May the Master, through His grace, allow
me to continue living with honour. Ameen.
3.
Be
Foremost in Apologizing: This is also my
experience. Man is fallible. Whether it's the
wife, husband, or any elder relative of yours,
if matters get tangled in any issue and reach
the point of displeasure, do not feel demeaned
in offering an apology. By apologizing, your
respect will never diminish in the eyes of the
other person; rather, it will only increase,
Insha'Allah. And taking the initiative in
reconciliation, even though not being at fault,
is the proof of your magnanimity.
4.
Do
Not Become Slaves to Desire: Before desiring
anything, look at your financial position. Do
not ignore it. Limit life to only the
fulfillment of personal needs. Cooperation
between wife and husband is essential in this.
If we do not do so, the home cannot run
properly. Live life based on the principle of
'give some, take some'. You will always remain
happy.
5.
Learn to Be Happy with Little: The search for
'better than the best' in life has robbed man of
his peace. Often, households have broken and
been destroyed due to these reasons. They are
not content. Live a life that is content, happy,
and satisfied with whatever Nature has bestowed
upon you.
6.
Adopt Moderation: Moderation is the key to
success in every phase of life. It is also the
saying of our guide and leader [Prophet Muhammad
PBUH]: 'Khair al-amr awsaṭahā' [The best
of affairs is the moderate one]. Meaning, the
path of goodness lies in moderation. And excess
in anything always becomes a cause of harm.
Therefore, adopt a moderate approach in every
matter. Whenever you do something that is beyond
your means, you will have to face worry in it,
and thus the atmosphere of the home becomes
unpleasant. Try to avoid this.
7.
Give Time to Everyone: It should not be that you
only spend time on your business, office, or
other engagements. Members of the household,
including the wife, elderly mother and father,
or any other elder in your home, also greatly
need your love and affection. Give them time
too, keeping their situations in mind.
Participate in their joys, sorrows, and
comforts. In this, you yourself will remain
happy, and the home will also remain peaceful,
which is beneficial for everyone.
8.
Special Point and Special Advice – Do Not
Differentiate Between Children: I have pondered
this point for years and paid special attention
to it. We see in many homes that the mother and
father give precedence to some children over
others. Do not do this. What happens with this
is that feelings of rebellion arise in the
neglected children, and the pampered children
can also get spoiled, the consequences of which
prove detrimental later on. Try to avoid this.
9.
Do
everything yourself, seeking the support of
Allah Ta'ala and making the effort to conduct
yourself with honour. Allah will provide help.
His embrace is vast; it should not be let go of
under any circumstances.
Your prayerful mother,

Guidance
from Bhittai
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai was and is part of our
everyday lives. The residents of Diplo, more or
less, in happiness or sorrow, recite the verses
of Shah Sain fluently. My Baba and Qazi Sahib
also knew Shah's Risalo [Message] by
heart. He too would repeat the verses time and
again. This became my habit too. The ups and
downs that came in life, whenever I mentioned
them, the verses of Shah Sain would well up in
my heart. I have included them at appropriate
places. However, some verses were left out, and
they are very dear to my heart. I am including
them here for my own pleasure:
First, Allah,
the All-Knowing, Most High, Lord of the Worlds,
The Almighty, with His Power, is Eternally
Established, the Ancient,
The Guardian, the One, the Unique, the
Provider, the Cherisher, the Merciful,
Praise Him, the True Lord, saying Hamd
[praise], the Wise,
The Generous Himself
planned and perfected the universe.
When you say,
"Waḥdahū lā sharīka lahū" [He is One, He has no
partner],
Then, for the sake of Muhammad, search out
love from within,
How did you then bow
your head to others?
"Waḥdahū lā
sharīka lahū" – did you not hear, O deaf one?
Why did your ears not perceive what is within
the conscience?
You will shed tears
when witnesses will confront you.
"Waḥdahū lā
sharīka lahū" – live this way, O being,
You win or you lose; this is your place,
You yourself will say,
"Drink!" filling the cup of Paradise.
“Waḥdahū lā
sharīka lahū" – this Oneness is the truth,
Embraced duality –
those who fostered it, were deprived.
Who would have
heard of Sohni, had she not entered the waters?
How long she would have been on this earth?
That sip crazed her which he milked,
Love killed Sohni, so says Sayyid,
She would have died
anyway; drowning, her worth doubled!
Trade not with
tinsel, rise and invocate with Allah,
Remove deceit from your heart; the Master
likes truth,
Kindle the blaze of the jewel of love within
your heart,
Come forth in this
manner, so the trading may be favourable.
With tinsel I
traded, Allah’s covenant, I broke,
The cage of sins, I filled to the brim,
Foolish one, are you
conscious of this?
That very
favourable transaction – place that in my
possession,
The helpless one has no power; You, the Aware
One, fulfill the request,
Without the companionship of the Guide, she
cannot return at all, O mother!
With grace, ferry me
across the daunting waves.
Turbulent waves,
sliding sandbanks, where there is no end to the
water,
O Allah, do not abandon the boats there upon
the sandbank,
May no collision occur, may no whirlwind
strike,
May no damage befall
this poor boat .
An ugly mason
woman, I am your honour though, O Lakha!
The huts that were
built under your shelter, are given in your
care.
Then utter some
word, O beloved, of solace for the servant,
You are my caretaker; I am dependent on you,
O Beloved, protect me,
cover my honour among the people.
Remove from me,
O Sovereign, the dark clouds from my eyes,
Seeing You, my long
standing sorrows have vanished.
If I am
senseless, even then You recognize Your
greatness,
You expose not the faults of the misled,
Such is Your grace,
that You cover the flawed ones, O sovereign!
You are the
shelter, You are the covering, You are the
refuge, You are the front,
Here too, my reliance is on You; hereafter
too, You are the destination,
They who come under the shelter of ‘Abro’
[the Sovereign], need not pay tax.
As great as Your
name, O Allah, so great is my hope,
O Creator, there is no limit or end to Your
bounty,
Your name, Lord,
remains within my soul.
As sweet as Your
name, so great is my hope,
No other door is worth
leaning on, other than Yours; I have seen many
doors.
You are the
Giver; others are all beggars,
Rains fall seasonally, but You rain down
always,
If You come to my
abode, sinner, I’ll be honoured.
Provide cover, O
Coverer; I am naked,
Cover me, O Concealer,
giving the garment of refuge.
As long as You
are the established Husband [Protector], I shall
not be needy,
Hut, roof, torn; none
knows to repair other than You.
You are the
generous Lord, I am supplicant; You are the
Giver, I am the fault,
You are the
philosopher's stone [pāras], I am iron; if You
touch me, I become gold.
You are the
generous Lord, I am the supplicant; You are the
Giver, I am the unworthy one,
Hearing Your call, I
placed the kīnro [beggar's bowl] on my shoulder.
You are the Samo
[ruler], I am the Gandri [fisher-maid]; I have
countless faults,
Seeing the heap of fish
rubbish, do not turn away.
You are the
Samo, I am the Gandri; I have million faults,
You know everything about my condition,
For the sake of the
Unseen Lord, do not turn away.
O Beloved, as
great as You are in glory and consciousness,
Show mercy upon me, my Beloved, as great as
Your compassion,
O Perfect One, what
great task is it, if You favour me with a
glance?
He who favours
the unworthy, do not remove hope from him,
He is nearer than near ones; what calls do
you make?
Close He brings the unworthy ones, gathers
the dirty ones,
That Friend will call
me in difficulty, says Abdul Latif.
Even if You find
no worthiness, still deem [me] worthy,
Do not remove hope, O
Friend, You are exceedingly gracious.
O Leelan, do not
lament so much; rise and sweep the sorrows,
The Beloved has crossed
over; the Husband has come to the lowly one.
The Gracious,
Lord of forest, seek, I find favours,
The Sovereign heard,
which is in the herdsman's heart.
Today too, the King visited the supplicant;
the night of union came to me,
Many pearls were valued in the land; the
priceless one glittered,
The anxieties from the
heart of Leelan, all vanished!
May no bride,
make merry with Chanesar,
Only later did I realize that this is not a
place to be enjoyed,
Anguished, He banished
brides promptly.
Spin and tremble, the weighers are
meticulous.
Spin and
tremble, weep and appease.
The Master is very Merciful, but
we humans have been taught the lesson to walk in
fear. The Sain is Merciful, Gracious, but still,
one must remain between hope and fear.
Shah Sahib, at all times, in every situation,
has adopted the persona of a humble woman. He
has strongly emphasized humility for us humans.
Seek your Beloved with a true heart and complete
love. Do not tire in this at all. Keep walking –
but walk in fear. Shah Sahib says, ‘O afflicted,
simpleton, you are searching for your beloved
wandering bareheaded in the wilderness; you are
mistaken. The Beloved is not in any mountain.
Search for your Beloved within yourself; He is
not far from you. Strangers are all apart. Know
the other as other. Ask about the Beloved’s path
and resting place from yourself.’
The Hot is
within your lap; why do you enter the mountains
asking?
Never did she go to the
market seeking the Hot [Beloved].
You carry Him
with you, yet you search for Him, O Sassui!
You never learned the way of walking from
knowledge,
Ask the lovers
yourself, so that you may find Him within.
Here is a bait that has not yet been seen in
Shah Sahib's Risalo, but I read it in the Kawish
newspaper in a statement given by Sassui Palejo,
which is why I am writing it here. This bait is
for those oppressive people who unjustly commit
tyranny against some oppressed person. Neither
fear of God nor fear of people – if a servant
fears, he should fear God; if he abandons that,
what fear will he have of people? But it should
be understood that the One who takes retribution
for them is the Living, the Eternal. Shah Sahib
says:
Not my husband,
but the brothers-in-law played the trick,
In the deserts,
for the camels, I will search,
Rock facing me,
step aside, lest you in pieces break.
The meaning is, O mountain, do not come in my
way, otherwise, I will cry out in such pain that
you will shatter into pieces. It is indeed a
great lesson, but only if one understands it!
Here, a bait by another poet is also much liked.
Poets also go through such periods that they
then express their thoughts based on that
experience. What does he say?
Those, knowledge
is in their veins, they do not taste hardship at
all,
From the taste of Sandal, the ignorant knew
nothing,
Their intellect, says Manik, is understood by
the jewelers [discerning ones],
Those who are not bound
by speech, cut them loose and discard them.

Beloved has
come; how may I make my eyes sparkle?
Let me place a tray full of true pearls
before the stranger,
O friend, do not forget
me; I am a singer [rāgī] at your door.

In
Sur Kāpā'itī, Shah Sahib has given profound
lessons to women. That too I like very much.
Therefore, I consider it appropriate to write
some baits here. That lesson is for myself, for
my children, and indeed for every human being.
If they act on this advice, it is a great
lesson; otherwise, the world will keep moving.
All humans are not alike either. Every person
has come taking their own path; whatever
knowledge and intellect God has given them.
Then, some people learn lessons from the
experiences of the times; some walk according to
their own ways. Allah Tabarak Ta'ala has to keep
this boat afloat; He keeps it afloat. May He
steer the boat with grace (Insha'Allah, Ameen).
The meaning of Kāpā'itī [The Woman
Spinner] is not just that women would sit and
spin cotton, but it is for every human being to
keep working hard, as much ability as the Pure
Lord has given them. Trying according to one's
capacity is one's own task, which has been
entrusted to them. If one continues to do it
with heartfelt devotion, with the love of a
sincere heart, then their honour will remain
high in this world too, and with the Master
Sain, there is no lack of reward. Do not become
lazy, useless, lose heart, and sit idle.
Even today, you
die for shelter; nor did you spin anything
yesterday,
O foolish one, how long
will the Husband be kind to you?
Stubborn woman! why don't you spin with
gold worth hands?
Sit in a corner, do your spinning; abandon
galavanting,
So that, smiling, you
may exchange your thread with connoisseurs.
Among peers and brothers, thus was the
Husband esteemed,
Sitting, leaning against the spinning wheel,
placing the end of the shawl around neck,
Then your spinning
shall not go waste.
Don't give me
the blame for not spinning; I spin trembling, O
mother!
Whenever [I sit], O
mother, my peers interrupt me.
The thread of
those is fine, who draw it out in seclusion,
Hiding, says Latif, trembling they spin,
If they return the
jewel, even then its price is high.
Again, he says, O foolish,
senseless woman, apply your heart and remain
engrossed in your work!
O foolish one,
take it [advice] to your heart,
Those who drew out the thread with
insistence, with determination,
The fine thread, says Latif, moves from their
hands,
From fine muslin, O
mother, the wise ones made gold.
The woman
spinner spun, coarse and little,
Let the connoisseur think right, may He not
examine the thread,
Where the scale tips,
there no one may be flawed.
Those who spun
coarse thread, though with love in their hearts,
Theirs, the
connoisseurs weighed without measure [accepted
readily].
She who did not
learn the fine [spinning], let her spin the
coarse thread,
Her thread is fine; the scales weighed it,
The coarse and little,
the helpless was dealt with kindly.
Now again, Shah Sahib says to that foolish and
senseless woman, O lazy and ignorant woman,
engage your heart and remain busy in your work.
This is for every human being. Here, Shah Sahib
has indeed spoken in the guise of a woman,
saying, O human, keep loving:
Your cotton
rolls have been picked by sparrows, while others
flown with the wind,
Beside the spinning wheel, O lazy one,
sleepiness has overcome you,
At midnight, says Abdul
Latif, weep and appease the King,
Molvi Ahmed Mallah
has said:
The tune of the
companions sing repeatedly,
Spin the spinning
wheel, spin some thread.
It slipped from
your hands, O girl, it slipped away,
You didn't spin anything sitting beside the
wall,
See, the whole time has passed for you,
Keep a special intention, O pure one,
Spin the spinning
wheel, spin some thread.
Why did you
leave the spinning wheel idle, O bewildered one?
Sit with it, body and soul, tending to the
cotton roll,
Saying 'Taubah, Taubah' [Repentance], stretch
the thread,
Card the tangled cotton, separate and sift
it,
Every moment, weave the thread of Truth,
Spin the spinning
wheel, spin some thread.
If you cannot
spin fine, O bride, spin the coarse thread,
With singular love, turn [the wheel],
earn as much as you’ve spun,
Among friends, celebrate Eid,
Spin the spinning
wheel, spin some thread.
Your own thread
will come before you,
Everyone will hold their own labour,
Having spun the coarse yarn, face the
consequences,
Spin the spinning
wheel, spin some thread.
Then again, Shah
sahib has said:
Even if you’ve
aged, still rise and come to the spinning place,
Become a companion to your peers; do not
create any other bone [discord],
So that tomorrow, the
connoisseur may call you among the spinners.
The purpose of writing this bait is that a
person, whatever they are or whatever their
human needs or necessities are, should ask for
all of them from their true Master and Creator.
Do not go to another door and recount your
situation, because they too are human. Sooner or
later, they might show a wrinkle [of
displeasure] on their face.
The Giver complained to the
beggar,
Leaving my door, O beggars, you begged from
others,
Then the days of
desolation befell upon you.
Beg from Him, O beggars, Who
gives daily,
The false doors of the world, why do you beg
[at them], O seeker?
Tomorrow they will turn
their faces back towards you.
“Do not become desperate; I am
not too afar”,
Appears far away;
actually the limit of both is one.
The following bait by Hamal Faqir
is very much liked by me:
Hamal says, about this matter,
sitting I pondered,
What price, what measure is there for the
heart attached in friendship?
Then from within, intellect spoke, this truth
emerged,
If attached, it's worth
lakhs and thousands; if broken, not even worth a
penny .
Hearing
accusative words with your ears, do not retort
back,
This is the knot [essence] of the Guide's
guidance,
Their entire life is
fulfilled, those who killed the ego with
silence.
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
Do not reply to
those who speak, retorting accusations back,
Give some valuable advice daily to the anger,
Do not retort words,
then all doors will become favourable for you.
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
The lesson of
the past that I read for myself,
First I recognized my own original abode,
Where true knowledge essentially became the
daily practice of souls,
Then the page of
destiny turned, the wound of separation was
healed.
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
Those very
letters turned back on me like arrows, which I
read myself,
Becoming crocodiles,
they turned back on me, those very letters from
before.
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
In your
courtyard, today they are; tomorrow the patient
ones will depart,
Within your soul, says Latif, yearn for them,
The lineage of the
Jogis, the second time, will only turn by
fortune.
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
Night, they
remain with you; tomorrow the patient ones will
depart,
Do something with the Kāpaṛīs; let the soul
be steeped in devotion,
Kiss their feet, lest
you yearn for the ascetics.
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
Those who don’t
advance beyond one letter,
What could be done for
them by telling the whole story?
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
They read and
read, but it doesn't boil [take effect] in their
hearts,
They bring blame upon
themselves as they turn many pages.
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
Read and read
that lesson of the pain,
Keep 'Mīm' [letter M, symbolizing Muhammad
PBUH] in your heart; 'Alif' [letter A,
symbolizing Allah] is before it,
From heart, repeat
this, that is the teaching of Latif.
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
Read the letter
'Alif'; forget all other pages,
Illuminate your inner
self; how many pages will you read?
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
As you turn the
pages, so you see the sin,
What will be done with
that saying, if the Sovereign did not live?
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
This is a supplication/prayer
which is written in Qazi Sahib's book, but I
like it immensely. Therefore, I am writing it
here in my diary:
O King of Kings,
always be a resource, helper, and aid,
Besides You, I have no other shelter, refuge,
O Lord,
In the dark night, reach me in the
wilderness, O King, Creator, All-Seeing,
Upon this evil wrongdoer, bestow forgiveness,
O Peerless One,
From the depths of my heart, I have come
seeking refuge in Your hem, O God,
I have fallen into the
abyss, rescue me, O God.
Five desires I
beg from You, O Almighty, Eternal One,
Fulfill them for me, O True Guide, Sustainer,
First, grant me faith until the final moment,
May Your remembrance constantly reside in my
heart.
From the depths of my heart, I have come
seeking refuge in Your hem, O God,
I have fallen into the
abyss, rescue me, O God.
Second, grant me
perpetual honour and dignity,
In gatherings or battlefields, may I remain
triumphant,
May my heretical opponents be wretched and
defeated before me,
In the field of difficulty, You help, O
Helper.
From the depths of my heart, I have come
seeking refuge in Your hem, O God,
I have fallen into the
abyss, rescue me, O God.
Third, broaden my fortune, O True Lord of
mine,
May a hundred soldiers, a hundred servants be
mine till the end of life,
Be my boatman, bring my boats ashore,
With grace, O Protector of Lakhs, arrange all
my affairs.
From the depths of my heart, I have come
seeking refuge in Your hem, O God,
I have fallen into the
abyss, rescue me, O God.
Fourth, may help
be granted to me for righteous offspring,
May they all become pious, may the command of
knowledge be upon them,
May they fulfill all rights, so that my heart
becomes glad,
With mercy, O Sweet Master, may my household
prosper.
From the depths of my heart, I have come
seeking refuge in Your hem, O God,
I have fallen into the
abyss, rescue me, O God.
Fifth, I ask for life with well-being from
both sides [this life and hereafter],
May comfort be granted to me, O Giver of both
worlds,
May I always have love for the Master of the
Two Weighty Things [Sayyid al-Thaqalayn -
Prophet Muhammad PBUH],
In life, may I walk and present myself at the
Ḥaramain.
From the depths of my heart, I have come
seeking refuge in Your hem, O God,
I have fallen into the
abyss, rescue me, O God.
This 'Ali
Muhammad', with humility, constantly seeks Your
help,
He who clung to Your hem, the slave of Your
slaves,
My hem [is in] Your hand, may it be so till
the Day of Resurrection,
May lakhs of Salawat [prayers] and Salām
[peace] shower upon the True Master [Prophet
Muhammad PBUH],
From the depths of my heart, I have come
seeking refuge in Your hem, O God,
I have fallen into the
abyss, rescue me, O God.

These five requests are at
the door of the Pure Lord; may the Master Sain
accept them, for He lacks nothing. The servant
can be filled with the blessings given by their
Lord. This poetry is also very dear to me, I am
writing it down along with this:
With grace, remove this difficulty, this
distress, O my God,
May my pleas reach Your door, O Giver, I have
fallen on your doorstep,
No hope remains, nor any friend among these
relatives,
Kind ones turned their faces away, seeing my
condition.
With grace, remove this
difficulty, this distress, O my God.
Make my worsened
fortune better again, O Lord,
Accept with Your generosity this humble plea
of mine.
With grace, remove this
difficulty, this distress, O my God.
I see dark
clouds all around, there is no light anywhere,
But before You, O Master, my plea is not
difficult,
With grace, remove this
difficulty, this distress, O my God.

This bait was told
to me by my brother Jan Muhammad:
If I weigh them,
they cannot be balanced, even against gold,
Those whose words in conversation are like
glittering pearls,
With whom my soul mingled, even if I try to
separate, they do not part,
Those who bloom within
my heart, I have gathered them all within my
soul.

O friends, who
am I who rows herself?
The reins are in the Lord's hand; blessed be
the Master,
Where shall I drive the
camel?

Always for the
beloved Sovereign, I sit shooing away the crow
[omen bird],
The pen is in the scribe's hand; how can I
erase what is written?
Wherever the Sovereign turns me, I place my
feet there,
They will come, says
Abdul Latif, I do not lose hope or expectation.

Pearls
of Wisdom
There are three things within a person, through
which one can attain nearness to Allah Tabarak
wa Ta'ala and also, by following the guidance of
the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him, attain the right path and improve
one's world and Hereafter, Insha'Allah. In this
too, the guidance and leadership of the Merciful
Master are needed. That Sain is greatly
Gracious, Merciful. May He grant us that
ability, and also our family and household,
rather, all believers, grant that guidance,
grant the beautiful path. May that Merciful
Master show grace and steer this boat with
grace. Ameen, then Ameen. Those three things are
these:`Adl’
[Justice], ‘Iḥsān’ [Kindness] and ‘Ītā'i
dhī al-qurbā wa al-yatāmā wa al-masākīn wa ibn
sabīl’ [Giving to near relatives, orphans,
the needy, and the wayfarer].
The meaning of `Adl is that whatever a
person considers appropriate for himself, he
should also deem appropriate for others. In
this, even if it involves his mortal enemy, he
should not let go of justice. There is much
clarification in the Holy Qur’an, but I am
writing only a little according to my flawed
intellect and understanding, as an advice. May
Allah Saeen keep this spirit firm within us. "`Adl,
I shall not escape; perform a turn of grace." -
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
The
meaning of Iḥsān is to become an
embodiment of goodness and virtue, taking steps
for the betterment of others according to one's
ability, making every possible effort according
to the strength Allah Ta'ala has given, wherein
Allah Ta'ala provides help. And also seeing that
whatever I am doing, Allah Ta'ala sees it. May
it be accepted by that Saeen, Insha'Allah.
Ṣilā-e-raḥmī
[Maintaining ties of kinship] – is a
distinct virtue that should be practised towards
relatives and kin, degree by degree. This
applies equally to all, but at times of
kindness, some occasions deserve more
consideration and attention than others.
These three attributes have much broader
meanings. Every sensible person, keeping the
concept of these words in view, can walk on the
path of goodness and virtue. The prayer at the
door of the Lord Saeen is that He grants us
ability, guides and leads us with His
generosity. Insha'Allah, Ameen.
Prohibition is also for three things: Faḥshā'
[Indecency], Munkar [Wrongdoing],
and Baghī [Transgression].
If
a person refrains from these three things and
uses sound intellect, then on one hand, the
blessings of Allah Ta'ala will descend upon him,
through which his world and Hereafter improve,
because the root of all evil and corruption are
these very three things. The Noble Prophet,
peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, also
gave us this same lesson – meaning, as long as a
person does not avoid these three evils, that
person cannot become civilized and pure.
The request at the door of the Pure Lord is that
He grant us and our family and household, and
the entire human race and the people of faith,
that ability and create that strength. No matter
is difficult before that Master!
As great as is Your Name, so
great is the grace I beg,
Without pillars, without columns, You are the
roof, You are the shade,
What state shall I
describe? You know everything.
–
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai
These few words which I read in the commentary [tafsīr]
of the Holy Qur’an greatly impressed me and I
liked them, therefore I am writing them here.
May they be written correctly, and the request
at the door of the Merciful Master is that they
attain the honour of acceptance and open the
doors of His grace and generosity for this
sinful servant, and make my children pious and
obedient, and shower upon them the rains of His
mercies and blessings. Ameen. Then Ameen. O Lord
of the Worlds!
This is a bait by Rohal Faqir which I
read in the sixth grade. Now, it is proving very
useful when Allah Ta'ala has granted me the
ability to understand it. Now, the request to
Allah Saeen is that I and my entire family and
household be blessed with the ability to act
upon it – read and act upon it. Because merely
reading does not achieve the purpose, but
understanding after reading and acting upon it
is the real objective, Insha'Allah. Allah Sain
will accept it.
The bait is this:
Those who read and pondered, they
are the masters of intellect, the wise,
Intoxicated in love, they see the Beloved
moment by moment,
Their rosaries are finished, those who have
love in their hearts,
From them, O Rohal, the
distinctions of reckoning have fallen away.
–
Rohal Faqir
Meaning, Rohal Faqir says that whichever humans
read the knowledge given by their Lord and
recognized it and acted upon it, they are the
wise and sagacious. They become so dyed in this
colour that then nothing of this world seems
superior to that love, and they remain seated
with their gaze fixed only on their Beloved.
Then he says that they are engrossed in that
contemplation. Subhan Allah! May the Lord grant
such ability. We are but helpless and sinful
servants; the Master is Merciful; He will show
kindness to the vines [humble ones], Insha'Allah.
Another Lesson of Life
During the time of Hazrat Dawood
(peace be upon him), someone's goats entered
another person's field and caused considerable
damage by eating the crop. The case came before
Hazrat Dawood (peace be upon him). Estimating
the value of the goats, he determined the
compensation and ruled that the owner of the
field should be given those goats. Allah Ta'ala
had granted Hazrat Sulaiman (peace be upon him)
wisdom, understanding, and the power of judgment
even in childhood. Upon hearing this, he said
that the decision should be made in this way:
those goats should be given to the owner of this
field so they can use their milk. And the owners
of the goats should cultivate the crop in that
owner's field and take care of it until the crop
reaches the same peak condition. Then the goats
should be returned to them, and the owner of the
land should take care of the land. Hazrat Dawood
(peace be upon him) also liked this decision
very much. It is written thus. These matters
pertain to the wisdom that Allah Ta'ala had
taught them, and Allah Ta'ala bestows kindness
upon His righteous servants in this way, who
derive counsel from it. His kindness continues
to flow upon those servants as well. Insha'Allah,
Ameen.
The main purpose of writing this is that there
is a great lesson in this for us humans: that we
should look within ourselves and see our
conscience, which is the greatest witness for a
human being. Because whatever good or bad deed
we do, whether we do it knowingly or
unknowingly, Allah Tabarak wa Ta'ala sees it,
for He is the Master and Creator, the All Seeing
and the All Knowing who knows even the secrets
of our hearts. But we also have our own
conscience, which tells us whether this step is
right or wrong. So, if every person understands
and wishes to avoid the reproach of their
conscience and fears their Pure Cherisher, and
avoids this strife and quarreling, they will not
end up ashamed before their Creator and Master.
Because no matter how many days or years one
lives in this world, one day they must appear
before that Sain, and then there will be no
scope for forgiveness for the wrongs committed
on others.
With lamentation before the Lord, this is my
prayer: May Allah Saeen grant me, my entire
family and dependents, indeed all believers, the
strength to follow His commands and thus improve
and adorn both our worlds. May the Accepting
Master Saeen grant this the honour of
acceptance. Ameen, summa Ameen. Shah (Abdul
Latif Bhittai) has said:
“I cannot escape with `Adl`, show
me a turn of grace.”
Human life is a masterpiece of
nature. The Merciful Master, created humans as
the most excellent among His entire creation,
the whole universe, bestowing upon them the
title of Ashraful Makhluqat. This is the
greatest miracle of His grace. After sending us,
two paths were placed before us humans: one of
good, the other of evil. Now it depended on us
which path we chose to take. And the special
favour was that guides were sent for our
direction, among whom our Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him) was sent for our
guidance and direction. He made us Muslims and
made us among the Ummat of the Prophet
Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon
him). Alhamdulillah. If we, weak and sinful
humans were to count these favours of our Master
Sain, they are boundless favours, for which our
weak tongues and frail hearts lack the strength
to express gratitude to the Exalted Creator.
Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah.
How many blessings of the
benevolent Rabb can one count?
Like fish in the water, sand in the desert,
hair on heads,
Innumerable, beyond
these measure, I deem the blessings of the
Benevolent One.
That is the grace of the Lord, who connected us
with such a guide. Now, the request before the
Sustainer is that He guides every human being
according to the guidance and Sunnat [Tradition/Practice
of the Prophet] of their true guide, so that
they may improve their life in this world and
the hereafter. And may He grant us and our
family and dependents the syrength to follow
this righteous counsel. Insha'Allah, Ameen. May
Master Saeen accept this humble request of this
humble and sinful servant. Insha'Allah. |
